Now that schools are shut, what’s the last thing your kids would want to do while at home?
Study, right?! Well, no brownie points for guessing!
But, is it possible to use this time at home and make playtime educational?
Yes, we used those two words in the same sentence. And the magical gaming kit that made this possible is Plugo Count – a math-based game combined with storytelling, that enables kids to learn math hands-on!
Before you take the dive, here’s a small little activity that’ll help you get a head start – Math Mash!
What you’ll need:
- Masking Tape
- Marker pen
- Modeling clay
- A question card with addition and subtraction problems (For grade 2 and below)
A question card with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems (For grade 2 and above)
How to play:
Step 1: Use a long strip of masking tape to form a number line on the floor.
Step 2: Similar to a ruler, mark numbers from 1 to 30 on the tape.
Step 3: Time for the super fun modeling clay! Roll them into 30 small squishy-mushy balls and place a ball in front of each number.
Read a question aloud from your question card and have your child squish the clay ball that is placed in front of the correct answer.
Fun rule (Yes, we just made a rule FUN) – for an addition/multiplication question, they must use their hands to squish the ball and for a subtraction/division question, they must use their feet.
Now play any game of Plugo Count to not just improve but put your math skills to test.
