#StayAtHome Activity of the Day – DIY herb garden with eggshells

Looking for ways to recycle your cracked eggshells? Go green by creating your own DIY eggshell herb garden. So easy!

It’s a time when we are left with no option but to #SuddenlyHomeschool our kids! Bottom line? This is a crazy time. Prioritise on doing some fun activities with your kids over academic progress. Don’t forget to have fun with them!

Eggshell Garden is an exciting activity that teaches kids about seeds, plants, sunlight, recycling, etc. You should try this out today!

What do you need for this activity?

  • Eggs
  • One cardboard egg carton
  • 3-6 types of seeds (preferably herbs like Basil, Fennel, Chives, Lemon Grass, Parsley)
  • Soil
  • Wooden spoon
  • Spray Bottle
  • Notepad (optional)
  • Pipette (optional)

Directions:

1. Take an egg and slowly break the pointy end. Rinse, clean and dry the eggshells.

2. Use the egg carton for placing the six eggs.

3. Write the name of the herbs you will be planting on the eggshells.

3. Fill the eggshells with 2 teaspoons of soil.

4. Sprinkle the seeds according to the herb name. Moist the soil with a few drops of water (use the pipette).

5. Place the shells in the sun for about two weeks and see your garden sprout!

Tip: Encourage kids to use a magnifying glass to observe the eggshells without touching or moving them from their spot. It would be great if they record their observations in a journal.

Some common observations:

  • Seeds start to sprout in the first week.
  • Sprouts grow into saplings in the next couple of weeks.
  • Shells crack as the saplings grow their roots deeper into the soil.

Send us your creation!

We’d love to see how your activity turned out. Share your snaps with us on Facebook or Instagram – and make sure to tag @playshifu!

This is a topic which is close to my heart… Thank you!
Exactly where are your contact details though?
Its such as you learn my mind! You seem to grasp a lot about this, such as you wrote the book
in it or something. I think that you could do with a few p.c.
to pressure the message house a little bit, however other
than that, this is fantastic blog. A fantastic read.
I will certainly be back. It’s appropriate time to make some plans for the future and
it is time to be happy. I have read this post and if I could
I want to suggest you some interesting things or
suggestions. Perhaps you could write next articles referring
to this article. I want to read more things about it! http://starbucks.com
